If you start to notice blotchy red spots on your otherwise clear complexion you may have broken capillaries. Broken capillaries are tiny blood vessels, which appears just beneath the skin’s surface.  They are often referred to as spider veins, because they spread out like tree branches.  Broken capillaries are most common in people with lighter skin tones or people with dry, dehydrated or sensitive skin.

There are many causes for broken capillaries, such as genetics, age, overexposure to the sun and skin sensitivity. The most effective treatment for the removal of spider veins is laser treatment.  At Total Wrapture Medi Spa, our Cynosure laser with pinpoint accuracy is used to treat these broken blood vessels. Although, the results are immediate, your Medical Esthetician may recommend additional treatments.

Candidates for this procedure should not seek treatment when skin is tanned or irritated, as it becomes more difficult to target the broken capillaries. You should also avoid the sun for several days after treatment as skin is more sensitive than usual.

Because broken capillaries may be due to dry skin, some people find success in preventing or reducing them by using Grapeseed oil, Aloe or Vitamin E oil.  Other preventive measures include wearing sunscreen, reducing alcohol consumption and protecting your skin from the elements. Avoid hot water when washing your face and opt for lukewarm or cold water instead.
