Laser microblading removal has become a popular service as more people seek to change or remove their brow pigmentation. Styles change. A brow style you liked years ago may no longer suit you. Why settle for something you don’t love? Whether you have old tattoos, microblading, or shading (such as ombre or powder brows), understanding the process will give you the confidence to take the next step.

Here are the top 10 things you should know about microblading removal!

1. How Many Laser Sessions Will I Need to Remove Brow Pigment?

Some may see results in 1 to 2 treatments, while others may require several sessions. Factors such the type of pigmentation (microblading, tattoo, or shading) and previous pigment touch-ups determine the number of treatments required. During your pre-treatment consultation, your laser technician will assess your brows and give you personalized information on expected outcomes.

2. Does Microblading Removal Hurt?

It can be uncomfortable, but a topical numbing cream helps ease discomfort. Little known secret: It only takes 10-15 seconds to treat each brow! They are then immediately cooled. No one has yet hesitated to get their second scheduled treatment (if needed). Once you’ve experienced it the first time, you’ll know what to expect and be surprised at how quickly it’s done.

3. How Does Laser Brow Pigment Removal Work?

We use the PicoSure laser which targets pigment without harming surrounding tissue. Within 10-15 seconds, it uses quick pulses to shatter brow pigment into tiny particles. Your skin naturally absorbs pigment particles and flushes them out through your lymphatic system. As this happens, new, clearer skin cells come to the surface, which fade your brow pigment.

4. What Results Can I Expect from Laser Brow Removal?

You can expect significant fading to complete removal of the old brow pigment. This process allows for new microblading or shading, giving you the brows you want.

The type of pigment and undertones of the previous colour will affect the fading process. For instance, cooler colours like blue-black will fade sooner than warmer tones. We find that most of our clients simply want to diminish them to get a new set of microblading on top or to make the previous pigment less vibrant.

5. How Long Does Laser Brow Pigment Removal Take?

Each treatment session is quick, typically lasting 10 to 15 seconds per eyebrow.

6. What is the Difference Between Microblading Removal and Brow Tattoo Removal?

Tattooed eyebrows are done with different pigments than micropigmentation (microblading and shading such as ombre). The laser targets these pigments differently. Typically, fewer sessions are needed for tattooed brows.

7. What Will My Brows Look Like After Each Treatment Session?

Post-treatment, your eyebrows may have slight swelling, and redness which typically lasts about 24 hours. The treated area will usually appear 3 to 4 shades lighter immediately. You may experience some scabbing that generally lasts 24-48 hours.

8. How Soon Can I Put Makeup on My Treated Eyebrows?

You should wait until any redness and swelling, (and sometimes scabbing) have completely disappeared before applying makeup. Generally, this takes about 24 to 48 hours.

9. Why is Brow Pigment Removal Popular?

Brow pigment removal has gained popularity due to changing trends in eyebrow styles. In the past, powder and ombre brows were popular. More recently, the natural look of microblading has been trending. Many PMU technicians request that you lighten old brow pigment before they apply new micropigmentation, making removal (or, more likely, diminishment) an essential step.
