The Fitzpatrick Scale is a system that helps to classify different skin tones based on how your skin reacts to light exposure, especially when it comes to tanning or burning. If your fusion treatment includes a laser session, your laser technician will test your skin with a melanin reader according to this scale to ensure the perfect energy type and setting is used.

There are six types on the scale, ranging from very fair skin that burns easily to very deep skin that rarely burns.

How to know your Fitzpatrick Type:

• Type 1: Very pale skin, often with freckles, that burns very easily and doesn’t tan.

• Type 2: Light skin that burns easily but can develop a light tan.

• Type 3: Medium or light olive skin that sometimes burns but tans gradually.

• Type 4: Olive or deeper skin that tans easily and rarely burns.
