You’re probably seeing it everywhere when it comes to advanced, non-invasive skin care! Radiofrequency (or RF) skin tightening is becoming the norm for treating cellulite, sculpting jawlines, and reducing crow’s feet, dark circles, and undereye bags.
Why are radiofrequency skin treatments on the rise?
Research and innovation by medical and esthetic industry leaders is helping us find new ways to apply cutting-edge technology to beauty and skin rejuvenation. Radiofrequency is increasingly becoming a part of glow-up routines. From red carpet prep sessions in Hollywood to your very own neighbour rejuvenating their skin in Winnipeg ahead of a special event, the no-downtime benefit of radiofrequency solutions makes it an easy lunchtime treatment with beautiful results.

CynoSure: The standard in energy-based treatments
At Total Wrapture, we use TempSure Envi and FlexSure radiofrequency systems created by CynoSure, the industry leader in medical and esthetic systems representing advanced levels of scientific technologies. Not only do CynoSure systems deliver spectacular results, but they are well-researched, safe, and registered with Health Canada.
For facial skin tightening and treatment of cellulite, we use TempSure to safely deliver heat into the skin’s layers, promoting natural collagen production. During the treatment, heat is introduced into the skin for a defined, therapeutic time which promotes your body’s natural response to create new collagen. The result? Beautiful, younger-looking skin!

What to expect during my TempSure Radiofrequency treatment at Total Wrapture:
Every treatment begins with a skin consultation with one of our experienced skin technicians. Next, you lie back to take a comfortable rest. A hydrating gel is applied to the skin on your treatment area to help the TempSure handpiece glide evenly on the skin. If you are having a cellulite treatment, radiofrequency is delivered with a wider handpiece. A smaller one is used to treat the face, eyes, neck, or jawline.
Your skin technician will begin moving the handpiece in circular or grid-like motions on the treatment area and you will feel the lower layer of your skin slowly heating up as you relax. Treatments usually last 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the treated area.

What is the science behind radiofrequency skin tightening and cellulite treatment?
Cellulite is a common condition that affects many people. It is caused by the accumulation of fat cells and the buildup of fluids and toxins in the subcutaneous tissue (the layer of fat beneath the skin). This results in a dimpled appearance on the skin’s surface.
There are several factors that contribute to the development of cellulite, including genetics, hormonal changes, exercise frequency, nutritional habits, and aging.
As we age, our skin loses its elasticity, and the connective tissues that hold the fat cells in place begin to weaken, allowing the fat cells to bulge out and create the characteristic dimpled appearance of cellulite.
Radiofrequency is a safe and gentle form of magnetic electricity that is used to heat tissue at a specific depth to cause collagen stimulation. This is achieved when your layers of skin tissue resist to RF energy, awakening fibroblasts (cells that form connective tissue) that go into collagen production mode.
RF energy is delivered through a handheld device that is placed on the skin’s surface.
The heat penetrates the skin and reaches the subcutaneous tissue. This causes the fat cells to heat up and break down, which triggers the body’s natural healing response and stimulates the production of new collagen.
The new collagen production helps to tighten and firm the skin, reducing the appearance of cellulite. Additionally, the breakdown of fat cells helps to reduce the overall volume of fat in the targeted area, resulting in a more toned and sculpted appearance.
What is happening during my treatment?
With TempSure Envi, radiofrequency is delivered in small, grid-like and c-shaped motions to bring skin temperature to a controlled, sustained level for a pre-determined amount of time to trigger self-grown collagen production. Tissue growth factors are released and the rebuilding of the middle layer of skin, known as the dermis, takes place during the next 7-10 days. You can see your skin becoming tighter and smoother as this happens.

What results can I expect?
Within 25-30 days, new collagen and elastin cause visible decrease in depressions and puckering in the skin such as fine lines and cellulite. New skin is tighter, which refreshes areas such as the jawline, neck, and diminishes undereye bags. RF-rejuvenated skin is also denser which reduces the appearance of dark circles and improves the smoothness of the skin.
How many treatments will I need?
Our skin technicians recommend planning to start with 3 treatments (one every 10-30 days) to begin with. This will trigger 3 cycles of self-grown collagen production which is a great place to start. If you are 40 or older, we recommend adding an extra treatment per your decade age. For example, 5 treatments is a good target if you are in your 50s. However, everyone has unique skin, and you can discuss your goals with your skin technician during your consultation to create a customized plan.

Is radiofrequency a laser treatment?
No, radiofrequency uses a different type of energy than laser does. Laser rejuvenates skin by causing controlled injury for skin rebuilding which is good for resurfacing the skin for treating age spots, pore appearance, scars, stretch marks and deeper wrinkles. In contrast, radiofrequency is used to tighten skin, which makes it ideal for sculpting and firming.
