Brows are a little like hairstyles. What felt perfect a few years ago might not feel like you today.

Maybe your powder brows feel too heavy now. Maybe your microblading has faded to a shade you never picked. Or maybe you’re ready for a fresh set and your artist wants the old pigment lighter first.

Whatever brought you here, you’re not stuck with them. Laser removal can fade old microblading, shading, ombre or powder brows, and brow tattoos. Some clients want them gone completely. Most just want them softer, so the brows that suit them now can go on cleanly.

Here are the 10 things we’re asked most about microblading removal in Winnipeg, in plain language.

1. Most Brows Need More Than One Visit

It’s the first question almost everyone asks: how many sessions will I need? The honest answer depends on your brows.

Some clients see the lightening they want in one or two sessions. Others need more. These are the factors that make the biggest difference:

  • The type of pigment. Microblading, shading and tattooed brows each respond differently.
  • How deep the pigment sits. Pigment placed deeper in the skin can take longer to break up.
  • The colour and its undertones. Some shades lift faster than others.
  • How many touch-ups you’ve had. Each touch-up adds another layer of pigment.
  • Your goal. Lightening brows for a new set usually takes fewer sessions than full removal.

Sessions are spaced several weeks apart. That break gives your skin time to heal and your body time to clear away the broken-up pigment. At your consultation, your laser technician looks closely at your brows and talks you through what to expect before you start.

2. It’s Quicker (And Cooler) Than You Think

Let’s be honest: it can feel a little uncomfortable. Many clients describe it as a quick snapping sensation on the skin. But it’s over fast.

Here’s the little-known secret. The laser takes only 10 to 15 seconds per brow. Throughout your treatment, our Zimmer cooler blows chilled air over the area, keeping your skin cool and comfortable while the laser works.

Most of our clients find the treatment very tolerable without numbing. If you’d like a topical numbing cream, just ask when you book. We’ll apply it before your treatment so you feel more at ease.

Many clients tell us their first session was easier than they expected. Once you’ve had one treatment, you know exactly what to expect, and your follow-up sessions feel familiar and relaxed.

3. How The Laser Lifts Old Pigment

We use the PicoSure laser, a Health Canada registered picosecond laser. It sends out extremely short pulses of energy that are absorbed by the pigment in your brows, not the skin around it.

Think of it like tapping a rock with a hammer until it breaks into dust. The laser shatters the pigment into tiny particles. Then your body takes over. Special cells called macrophages collect the pigment fragments and carry them away through your lymphatic system.

Because the energy is delivered so quickly, PicoSure breaks pigment apart without heating up the surrounding skin the way older lasers did. That means a more comfortable treatment and a gentler recovery.

Every laser treatment starts with a patch test. It’s a quick step that confirms your skin is responding well before your full session.

4. Lighter, Softer Or Gone: What To Expect

Results range from noticeable fading to complete removal. It depends on your brows and what you’re hoping for.

Colour plays a big part. Cooler shades, like blue-black, tend to lift sooner than warmer ones. Microblading pigments are often made of browns, reds and oranges. As those pigments break down, your brows may look warmer or a little orange for a while. Don’t panic! That’s normal for any permanent makeup, and it keeps fading with each session.

Most of our clients don’t need their brows erased. They want them light enough for a new set of microblading, or simply softer and less intense. Your technician will walk you through what’s realistic for your brows at your consultation.

5. Ten Seconds A Brow, Plus A Little Prep

The laser itself is the quickest part of the visit, about 10 to 15 seconds per eyebrow. Your appointment also includes time to check your brows and apply numbing if you’ve asked for it. It fits easily into a busy day.

A little prep helps your skin get the most from every session:

  • Avoid exfoliation, peels, or products with exfoliating properties (AHAs, retinol) a week prior to your appointment.
  • Avoid heavy sun exposure and use SPF before and after.

6. Microblading And Brow Tattoos Aren’t The Same

They sound alike, but the pigments are different. Traditional brow tattoos use tattoo ink. Microblading and shading, like ombre or powder brows, use cosmetic pigments placed with a different technique.

The laser treats them differently, too. Tattooed brows often need fewer sessions. Microblading can take a little longer because of those warm undertones we mentioned.

Not sure which one you have? That’s completely fine. Your laser technician can usually tell at your consultation, and it helps them plan your sessions. Thinking about fading a tattoo somewhere else on your body too? Our laser tattoo removal page explains how that works.

7. Your Brows, The Day After

Right after treatment, your brows usually look three to four shades lighter. That first change can feel like a real lift.

You may see some redness and slight swelling for about 24 hours. Some clients also get light scabbing for 24 to 48 hours. That’s simply your skin’s natural healing process at work.

Aftercare is easy:

  • Keep the area clean. Skip harsh scrubbing and abrasive cleansers.
  • Protect your brows from the sun while they heal.
  • Don’t pick or scratch any scabs. Let them come away on their own.
  • Hold off on brow makeup until redness, swelling and scabbing are fully gone.
  • Follow any personal instructions from your laser technician, and keep your follow-up appointments.

8. Give It 12 Weeks Before New Brows

It’s tempting to book your new brows right away. We recommend waiting at least 12 weeks after your last removal session.

Those 12 weeks let your skin fully heal. They also let the last of the pigment finish fading, so you can see your true result. Go too soon and your artist is working blind. They may add the wrong amount or the wrong shade, because they can’t see what’s really left underneath.

A little planning goes a long way. If you know you want new brows, tell your technician at your consultation, and they’ll map out your sessions with that goal in mind. Once you’re healed, explore brow microblading in Winnipeg or brow micropigmentation for a softer, more current look.

9. Why So Many Clients Are Starting Over

A few years ago, bold powder and ombre brows were everywhere. Today, many people love a softer, natural look with fine, hair-like strokes. Brows done for one trend can look heavy once the trend moves on.

Colour is the other big reason. Over time, some pigments fade unevenly or turn grey, pink or orange. Filling them in every morning to cover it gets old fast.

Many permanent makeup artists now ask clients to lighten old pigment before they’ll work over it. That makes removal, or more often lightening, the first step toward the brows you actually want.

10. Is It Time To Let Them Go?

If you’re unhappy with your old microblading, shading or brow tattoo, laser removal is a great option. It’s quick, and you decide when the fading feels right.

You might be surprised how often people change their minds about permanent brow makeup. It’s completely normal. Our clients often tell us how relieved they feel once the old pigment starts to lift. They’re finally wearing brows that suit who they are now.

Still deciding? That’s exactly what the consultation is for. Come in, ask every question you have, and leave with a clear plan, whether or not you book that day.
